About Me

I was born in Liverpool and brought up in a football-mad family. I am one of five lads and I started playing football from the age of 5 years old with my brothers. I supported Liverpool and was lucky enough to be selected to play for their Academy for 6 years. In this time I was coached by one of my favourite players, Steve Heighway, who I believe to this day is one of the best coaches out there.

Later on, I turned Professional and played over 500 games during my 17-year career. I have played for and captained Coventry City FC over a five-year spell as well as playing for and gaining promotion with MK Dons FC and Portsmouth FC.

I’ve had some great experiences along the way and I have played under some great managers. I’ve also won two England C caps playing against Italy and Finland, winning both games. My career has allowed me to play in several countries; Japan, America, South Africa and India to name just a few. I have played alongside England and Spurs star Dele Alli and against players like Real Madrid and Wales Star Gareth Bale.

Life after Football

I am a father to three children and now want to give something back to the game that has given me so much, this is why I am setting up the Carl Baker Football Academy. I want to pass on all I have learnt throughout my career. I’d like to help children through football to be the best they can be whilst having plenty of fun and meeting new friends along the way.
